RLGA Grant to Thurgoona
Thurgoona Golf club were successful in gaining a grant from the Riverina Ladies'' Golf Association. We employed our two golf professionals - Penny Graeber and Kirk Nederpelt to conduct clinics to improve our short game. 40 ladies expressed interest in attending four clinics on pitching, chipping, putting and hitting out of sandbunkers. The clinics with 10 in each group were conducted over four Friday afternoons. Comments from the ladies at the conclusion of the clinics were very positive and the clinics were considered worthwhile. As one participant summed it up - '"I learnt heaps and am now trying to implement it all into my game. I certainly appreciated all the advice and tips.'" The clinics were timely as the Thurgoona Club has made major improvements to our golf course and the ladies are keen to take advantage of this. I am sure ladies will now be more confident to participate in Riverina events as was shown last Friday with 20 ladies going to Howlong for the Foursomes event. Thankyou to the RLGA for making this grant available to us.

Thank you to the RLGA for providing a grant to help our ladies improve their short game. Forty ladies covering the full spectrum of golfers from high to low handicaps participated in four clinics consisting of pitching, chipping, putting and sand bunkers. There were four groups of ten ladies participating in each one hour session over four Friday afternoons.
We employed our two golf professionals, Penny Graeber and Kirk Nederpelt to conduct the clinics. They were well prepared for each session with interesting activities and printed handouts on the skills being taught. The ladies considered the clinics very worthwhile and comments were very favourable. Three of the comments were:
“both Kirk and Penny were very encouraging and informative – explained succinctly”
“came away from each lesson with something new to try”
“at last I know how to hit out of a bunker! Lessons were really helpful and allowed me to try new shots and put them into practice in a game. Thank you – a great initiative.”
The clinics were timely as the Thurgoona Club has made many improvements to our golf course and the ladies are keen to take advantage of this. We are noticing increased numbers at our Monday and Wednesday competitions. Also our ladies are now participating in more RLGA events as was shown with twenty ladies recently competing in the RLGA Foursomes event at Howlong . Our C Grade golfers have gained in confidence and more have participated in Riverina Pennant for the first time.
Overall this was a worthwhile initiative provided by the RLGA . This has inspired our club to investigate the possibility of conducting further clinics at a club level for our members.
